A Note From IamHITL

The Themesis Resource Map, a Note From IamHITL

By Michael Polzin. Published 2026-07-01. Cluster: ai-as-partner-not-replacement. Evidence classes present: E, F, U.

Themesis, the group around AJ Maren's active-inference teaching work, published a 2026 resource map for people trying to figure out where to start (Class E). SolutionWright is named on that map as one of five pathways. That is worth writing about, and it is worth writing about honestly.

So here is the honest read.

What the map is, and what it is not

The map is a curated list. Themesis put it together to help newcomers navigate an ecosystem that has, until recently, been very small and very technical (Class E). Being listed on a curated list is not the same as being endorsed. It is not a partnership. It is not a validation of our science, our methods, or our claims. It is ecosystem context: someone in the neighborhood pointed at a door and said, "there is also a door over there" (Class U on the reader's inference about what that pointing means, so we are labeling it plainly).

We take the inclusion as a courtesy and as a signal that the work we are doing is legible enough from the outside to be recognizable as part of an active-inference conversation. That is a real, small, useful thing. It is not a medal.

Themesis, in our own voice

Here is the reference, with an original one-line summary in our voice, per our house rule of never paraphrasing someone else's prose:

Read it directly. Do not take our summary as the article. Take it as a pointer.

What we owe you when someone points at our door

Being pointed at raises the stakes on our own honesty. So we are restating, out loud, what our work is and what it is not.

Universal Natural Intelligence is a working hypothesis on an attainable path toward General Natural Intelligence: a natural, active-inference approach whose evidence is growing, evidence-classed, and tested in the open. Do not take the claim on faith. Test the build, inspect the gates, and help us find where it fails (Class F on the invitation, because the falsifier is the point).

We are not claiming to have general intelligence. We are not claiming a validation against any specific published equation or example unless we have shipped the exact mapping. We are not claiming endorsement from AJ Maren or from Themesis. If any of that appears anywhere on our sites, it is an error, and the correction path is the same as everything else here: bring the receipt, and the record updates.

Why this matters for a human in the loop

IamHITL exists because the human is not a bug in an intelligence system. The human is the loop. When an outside group publishes a map that says "here are five doors," the trauma-informed, non-clinical read of that is: good. More doors, more choice, more agency for the person doing the choosing. Our door is one of them. Walk through whichever one fits your actual life. If the fit is wrong, walk out. That is not failure. That is the loop working.

The reason we frame it this way, and the reason we refuse language like "the only" or "the first," is that a person in a hard season deserves a map that respects their judgment (Class C on this being how we author every page in the family: it is a configuration commitment, not a marketing pose).

The receipts under this note

Themesis published the map on 2026-06-29 (Class E). SolutionWright is listed on it (Class E). We have not signed a partnership agreement with Themesis and we are not describing this inclusion as one (Class C, our own configuration). Anywhere we ever describe this differently in public copy, the correction is welcome and will land quickly.

That is the whole note. Small, on the record, and unwilling to be inflated.
